...And they blew her up - she was split in two..
In recent months I had been watching "Third Watch," a prime time NBC series, in reruns on A&E. I really liked the character Alex Taylor played by Amy Carlson - she sort of reminded me of an old friend I haven't seen in a long time.
Well, Amy Carlson decided she wanted off the show, and they gave her character a particularly gruesome and horrifying send-off. She was blown up by a tank of nitrous oxide that was stashed unseen in a burning car. First, her still-concious torso hit the ground, then secondly she (and I ) got to watch as her two legs landed in a sickening plop beside her.
When are the networks going to learn that it doesn't pay to devise such a grim end for a character with whom the viewer has developed an identification? I swear it just gets worse and worse. All the people on "Third Watch" are such type-A, stressed out folks - Alex was the only person that was sweet, loveable and good, and that's why I watched the show. I won't make that mistake again, and I wrote NBC to let them know about it. I know the producers of "Third Watch" wanted to create a "worst day of her life" scenario that "you'll never forget", but they have confused this with memories that you have that you wish you couldn't remember.
By the way, Carlson has moved to a show on USA where she will play a student on a ranch owned by sherriff Tom Berenger. Doesn't sound too promising - probably he'll want out of this dog in six weeks, so they'll kill off his character (pulled apart by horses this time perhaps?) and Amy Carlson will take over his job; it'll be "She's the Sherriff" all over again, right? Whup - ppee.
