Uncle Dave Lewis lives in a hole in the back of his brain, filled with useless trivia about 78 rpm records, silent movies, unfinished symphonies, broken up punk bands from the 80s and other old stuff no one cares about. This is where he goes to let off a little steam- perhaps you will find it useful, perhaps not. Who knows?

Good News!

Allisyn is to be released from the hospital tomorrow! Hooray!

She had a stent put in Tuesday and that is supposed to take care of her problem at least temporarily. At least this should buy us some time so that she can visit her regular cardiologist. Ironically, she had an appointment to meet with him yesterday. Needless to say she didn't make it.

Spooky Radio Triumphs Once Again

I want to thank all of the kind souls who enjoyed my Tuesday night radio show. The Master had a tremendous good time. A few FUQs relating to the show -

Q: Was "The Boarded Window" a virtuoso on-air performance or was it pre-recorded?

A: It was pre-recorded, back in 1991 in fact. I prepared the narration and read it, and composed the music. Chris Lockhart (who was a progrmmer for Art Damage from 1990-2000) recorded the thing and contributed all the sound effects.

For a few years I recorded a Hallowe'en story every year for broadcast on both the Art Damage and the daytime Radio Anaphylaxis shows on WAIF. Among others done were Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat", for which I formed a mini-orchestra of improvising rock musicians, and C. M. Eddy & H. P. Lovecraft's mega-obscure story of necrophilia "The Loved Dead". The latter truly WAS a virtuoso performance, with narration, music and sound effects done live on air all by myself with no assistance.

Q: What's up with that voice?

A: The Master of Horror's voice was developed for the Infantile Analysis song "The Master of Horror Rap" back in August 1986. I think of it as a cross between the voice of Orson Welles when he is bellowing and that of Fuad Ramses, a character in the ultra gory, ultra bad Herschell Gordon Lewis flick "Blood Feast" (1963). In the rap piece that was the "control" voice, while I devised other voices for the various "personalities" of the Master represented in the song. One of these, a Peter Lorre imitation, turned up on an Art Damage episode dated 4/10/1986 that I recently restored for inclusion as a downloadable mp3 on the artdamage.org site. In this monologue, "Peter" is reviewing the upcoming Andy Griffith Show reunion movie, which he condemns as "I haaaate cuuuteness!!" When the file is availble I'll provide the link here.
