Uncle Dave Lewis lives in a hole in the back of his brain, filled with useless trivia about 78 rpm records, silent movies, unfinished symphonies, broken up punk bands from the 80s and other old stuff no one cares about. This is where he goes to let off a little steam- perhaps you will find it useful, perhaps not. Who knows?

Another Historic Bit Associated With 9/13

September 13, 1983
Huey Lewis and the News release the Sports album. It went on to have five Top 40 singles: "The Heart of Rock & Roll," "If This Is It," "I Want a New Drug," "Heart and Soul," and "Walking a Thin Line."

I opened for Huey Lewis and the News at The Pit in Cincinnati sometime in the Fall of 1980. Their presence on the scene
caused a local band called "News" to change their name to "Fourth Estate" and rendered their freshly pressed lot of 10,000 singles obsolete.

I could never have imagined that Huey Lewis and the News would've gone on to such big things in a matter of a couple years judging from what I saw in 1980. To us they were just a "thin tie" band, kind of square and a little over the hill. Amazing what a combination of Reagan and MTV ultimately did to music in the '80s.

Uncle Dave To Return to WCBN

That's right folks - Thursday morning September 16, 2004 I will be returning to the airwaves in Ann Arbor on WCBN 88.3 FM from 6am-9am. I won't be doing it every week; rather I am alternating with Mali Sridihan. But if you liked my old show, this will hopefully come as good news. Of course, it's on the web at www.wcbn.org
