Uncle Dave Lewis lives in a hole in the back of his brain, filled with useless trivia about 78 rpm records, silent movies, unfinished symphonies, broken up punk bands from the 80s and other old stuff no one cares about. This is where he goes to let off a little steam- perhaps you will find it useful, perhaps not. Who knows?

A Most Ordinary Day, Really

Today is a day I found - umm (smacking of lips) most distasteful. I got on the bus, went to work, worked my ass off, came home, ate, helped sort laundry for my wife to take to the laundromat (God bless her - she didn't insist I go this time) broke down boxes, shuffled things around, moved furniture...

To my knowledge not a creative thought passed my cranium today - I'm not even sure why I'm blogging. I have been listening to some nice music tho:

Bachiana: Music By the Bach Family/Reinhard Goebel/MAK on Archiv
Not all of it's good, but I really like the Sonatas of Heinrich Bach

The Unknown Froberger Vol. 1/Siegfried Rampe on MDG
You haven't lived until you've heard a clavichord in mean tone temprement.

Magnificat/Maasaki Suzuki/Bach Collegium Japan on BIS
Awesome! The G major Magnificat by Zelenka is a real find.

The Henry Brant Collection Vol. 1 on Innova
Spaced out music of the first order, by a space cadet whose journey goes back a little further than most

The Amazing Bud Powell Vol. 1 on Blue Note
New (2001) remastering by Rudy van Gelder. Great sound, great player, nicer than usual track sequencing for this kind of re-issue.

Scarlatti Sonatas/Ralph Kirkpatrick on Archiv
It's about time this came out. Sound is greatly improved on CD vs. LP. Ralph Kirkpatrick rules, though his interpretations sound quick to me now.

Was sorry to hear that Skeeter Davis passed away. I was always partial to her tune "Bus Ride To Kentucky." So is my mother, who is from Kentucky.

As Kathy Baker used to say on Hee Haw - "That's All!"
