Lewis Down, way way DownFriday morning I went to work, feeling no worse than I usually do. At about ten a.m. I noticed my left ear blocking up and held my nose and blew it out. Mind-numbing pain in my left ear began, along with dizziness so intense that I almost passed out at my desk.
After about two hours of trying to deal with it - seeing if it will go away. I finally threw in the towel and asked my boss if I could leave. I went home and died, only to be revived by the mrs. - there were a number of things I had promised to do for her that I wasn't going to get out of. So I had to devote two hours hustling around a matress, going to the store etc. Times like that I wish I could find a nice drainage pipe to hide in.
The next day, Saturday, no change and in fact, it's worse. The pain is gravitating from my left to my right ear. Although I have the presence of mind to tape the movie "Pigskin Parade" (1936) off cable, I can't really do anything else.
Sunday morning I felt better - first time in 44 hours with no pain, although it sounded like a factory inside my head. I hustled off to church, only to deteriorate during service. I came home with both ears throbbing and a sore throat. That's kind of where we're still at as this is written.
There is no way that I can call off work tomorrow - I have to file two important documents relating to my benefits. Also, tonight I had tickets to go see David Finckel and Wu Han in East Lansing. But I can't even make it out my front door. I feel like the Pope looks in his most recent photographs.
