Uncle Dave Lewis lives in a hole in the back of his brain, filled with useless trivia about 78 rpm records, silent movies, unfinished symphonies, broken up punk bands from the 80s and other old stuff no one cares about. This is where he goes to let off a little steam- perhaps you will find it useful, perhaps not. Who knows?

Summary for Sore Eyes

My eyes are VERY tired and I can hardly even read this screen. But a few notes -

The last Flint gig was a weird one - played in a basement in some neighborhood, along with a Boston based band that had left Philly that morning just to play there and make $13, and Realicide, who drove up from Cincinnati. That should tell you something about the current state of the underground scene. It has become so expensive to open an nightclub, and is such a hassle beciase since the Great White show in Rhode Island the fire marshals and building inspectors make it so hard to open one, that there is nowhere for the subterranean band to play. Hence, driving hundreds of miles to play a basement...

I was really shocked at how well received I was. People were calling my name from the crowd, and there was riotous screaming after every song played. I can't recall the set that I did, except in part - I played JFK, Dash Out the Brains, Academy of Anthrax (did not go well, but they cheered anyway), Dorothy Stratten, Osamalude, Jammin' with Gene, The Eternal Frat Boy and a couple others.

Afterward some guys came up and said "Now Uncle Dave you've GOT to have some vinyl on you or a tape..." No, I didn't have nothing - I've really got to work that out. The guys from Boston said "We've been on tour and seen a bunch of bands. You're the best thing we've seen on the whole tour."

I would like to have seen them play, but my wife has only limited ability going up and down stairs, and she had enough to get down and up the basement steps one time, and then went out to the car. Needlees to say I wasn't going to leaver her sitting there, so we left kind of early. Ran into the Realicide guys as they were coming in. Would've liked to have seen them too. I DID see Will and Adam perform their set together, which will be the last for awhile, as Adam moved to Arizona just a couple of days after the gig. Best of luck to you! I understand that performance is going to be issued on a mini-CDR, as shown below:

A bit of my set was recorded, but I have't heard it yet, as Adam recorded it, and understandably he's been busy.

RIP Frankie

Sad news came by the Pony that Ron Orowitz' legendary 17-year-old feline has gone to that great scratching post in the sky, as of Thursday. She was buried in the adjacent lot next to Ron's house and a tombstone will be set up in her memory.

This week's compositions in progress.

Hastur the Unspeakable, song for 2 voices & guitar
This one is written for me and Greg Fernandez to sing in Lopez Sophisticates. While David Bowie may write about "Scary Monsters" and "Super Creeps" I'm content to write a song about monsters that aren't so scary.

El Rancho Copland, song for voice & keyboard
This is a very short, humorous song based on a bit of Copland.
