Uncle Dave Lewis lives in a hole in the back of his brain, filled with useless trivia about 78 rpm records, silent movies, unfinished symphonies, broken up punk bands from the 80s and other old stuff no one cares about. This is where he goes to let off a little steam- perhaps you will find it useful, perhaps not. Who knows?

New News

Really there are a lot of things going on that the reader of this blog should know about.
First off, I have a page at Myspace now where one can access some tracks:

http://www.myspace.com/

Go to "Music" and look up "Uncle Dave" or "Uncle Dave Lewis."

The "All Music Guide to Classical," which contains a zillion articles by yours truly, will be published in October.

Image Entertainment will releasing "Unseen Cinema" in October, a DVD collection of American avant-garde films dating from 1900 to 1942. I submitted about a half-dozen audio tracks to the project when it was a touring program, and these have been retained in the DVD set.

I will be appearing, probably for the last time with my old bandmates from the 80s, at the Southgate House in Newport,Ky. on October 8. Shake It! Records' re-issue of my early1980-82 recordings, "Auto Glamour Sound," will appear at that time, as well as their BPA re-issue which will feature a number of tracks which I produced for them.

In September de fenestra will be conducting a mini-tour - a date at the damage in Cincinnati (which will include a solo show of some kind also) on September 9, one in St. Louis on September 10 and two in Chicago on September 11. de fenestra has a page on myspace.com also that can provide the gory details on these performances, or you can write me at

Mo' Better Butter

As much as I had few kind words for the mass-marketed artists a few days ago, there is a current-day band that I am just nuts about, Seattle's Buttersprites. They pull together Japanese pop with 80s styled Post-Punk or New Wave styles with an artistic confidence and
panache for performance that is simply irresistable. I have already spilled a lot of ink on their behalf, particularly at AMG where it will do the most good. But they represent a revolution in current-day entertainment, offering something that is fun, funny, bright and witty as opposed to a lot of the posturing I-am-bigger-than-you kind of fare found in major label entertainment. Were you to buy the record I guarantee it would spend a lot of time in your player, especially if you have kids.

So there is more to today's music than evil - there is Buttersprites, a band so terrific it's worth it to throw a party just to have your friends listen to their record. They too have a myspace page and a very nice site, www.buttersprites.com, where one can sample the wares.

Today I've GOT to clean up my work area, which is all disconnected - wires hanging loose, records and CDs in overstuffed boxes piled up in a catch as catch can fashion. The cats love it, but I hate it, and it scrambles my brain just to consider making sense of this mess. So if you'll excuse me...

But before I go, here's a couple of jokes -

From Remy: "Hey Dad, look, I'm a "Serial Killer" - Die Capn Crunch, Die!!"

and from me:

The Opening Scene of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat as Performed by a Non-Francophile who Drops His Text on the Floor After the First Line

Entre denges et denezy

Un Soldat –oops- hey, hey mais oui!

Freres Jacques and Ooh La La

Merdre, chienne et tu pou toi!!
