Uncle Dave Lewis lives in a hole in the back of his brain, filled with useless trivia about 78 rpm records, silent movies, unfinished symphonies, broken up punk bands from the 80s and other old stuff no one cares about. This is where he goes to let off a little steam- perhaps you will find it useful, perhaps not. Who knows?
Garland of Flowers
I lived in New Orleans for a time. Northeast of the French Quarter
there is a part of town called the Faubourg Tremé which is a massive
shanty town that stretches out for miles. The French Quarter was
flooded, but doesn't look too bad off. However, I'm not seeing the
Faubourg Tremé at all, although some of the distinctive one and two room
houses one associates with the area I've noticed floating around on TV.
That neighborhood is heavily populated with poor and old people, and some
of those families have lived there since the end of slavery. If that
neighborhood was flooded out, the death toll **will** be in the thousands.
New Orleanians sometimes refer to this area as "Up Esplanade" or "Down
Rampart Street, The Other Way..."
