Uncle Dave Lewis lives in a hole in the back of his brain, filled with useless trivia about 78 rpm records, silent movies, unfinished symphonies, broken up punk bands from the 80s and other old stuff no one cares about. This is where he goes to let off a little steam- perhaps you will find it useful, perhaps not. Who knows?

Spat

Hey - a new restoration of an Art Damage era "cutup," Uncle Dave song No. 340, "Spat." I'd quite forgotten I'd done this one lately, given the shows in Cincinnati and all the excitement. I revised it only a little - cut down on the tape hiss - there was a bunch - and removed some repetitions of things that I never wanted in it in the first place, mostly towards the end and not too many, though Greg Fernandez warns he might miss them.

I saw on Yahoo! that Bon Jovi had his first number one album since 1988, and this one's from '88, so I figured I could have a number one album too! Oh - wait a minute - this is from March 1987. Never mind...

Some may scoff and say that I'm pulling this out for hidden autobiographical purposes, given my troubles of late. This is not so - my recent separation from my Mrs. wasn't anything like this - quite the opposite. In fact, the original piece wasn't done after a breakup either, but during a time when I was dating someone and pretty happy romantically. It was done with two cassette decks, and a gazillion pause button edits. This is a case where you come by a source, and you know instantly what to do with it and just can't wait for the opportunity. Chronologically it comes from right after "Gidget Spontaneously Combusts," another Uncle Dave work desperately in need of restoration.

Keep your voice down,

Uncle Dave Lewis
